We loved this project because our client wanted to create a country space in their urban town home.  We found it challenging and inspiring to find ways to imitate a place far away in an environment so contradictory.  Our client was delighted with the way the space turned out and can travel to distant places that bring them comfort and family atmosphere without traveling too far.   Actually, steps away from the deck that overlooks midtown.

Hello,

I wanted to personally thank you for the amazing extension of our Sea Isle retreat home beyond our existing walls and into our outdoor space. Your design services were was fantastic with detailed information and pricing that never varied throughout the project all the way to completion. The quality of the materials you selected with us is the BEST I have ever seen. Being I do live near the ocean and salt water, the environment was a considerable factor in bringing our lifestyle outdoors and I have attached this recent pictures showing you a scene from some of this new living experience you made possible.

Thank you for a wonderful experience and I would rely on Living Structures for any futureoutdoor projects.

Exposed islands add accent and design advantages, but can also interrupt projects that orient starkly.  We found Studio Becker to have the right solutions to creative approaches to hidden convenience.  Here you can raise or lower your cabinetry to counter height and even have small appliances already plugged in and ready to use.  We love finding the hidden answer to every design/build challenge.

Bathroom as Design Centerpiece

Posted on October 1, 2009 · Leave a Comment

bathroombravadoWe don’t see bath and powder rooms as standalone space, but more as scattered centerpieces of design through the home.  Here are a few different approaches we have taken in a few of our remodels that offer up bath and powder space that competes for center stage!

Our client for this project expressed a sense of Bravado that permeated the air, and as we imagined, even at their most private moments of solitude.  We tried to represent that in the space we designed and built.

In another project, we felt a serenity in persona and sense of space and bathroomotherworldlydesign.  Accordingly, we aimed to devise a space that would feel like hand in glove to this Zen-like couple.

A Different Kind of Church Conversion

Posted on September 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Properties originally intended for one purpose and reconstructed to serve another are the ultimate design challenge.  It stretches us and often provides exciting structures and materials like this church to condo conversion that we just finished.

You can see the amazing ceiling work that provides drama and background texture and complexity to the project.

While the period structure, woodwork, and plaster transport our minds to another time, the project also offers nooks to create more traditional rooms that receive the extra architectural benefit of unusual ceiling heights or angles and original flooring materials.  One example is this living room that we designed to capture the architectural benefits while providing a transitional experience to a more garden variety living room experience:

And, every church has a kitchen, and we had fun transitioning place of prayer to place of pantry:

So, from our point of view, the bigger the challenge the larger the reward.

Power and Simplicity

We were inspired by the simplicity and power in this work by Cambridge artist Michael Mazur.  His dynamic paintingsinspirations reflect the journey of a man who refuses to stand still artistically.  This particular work reflects a tremendous energy through a minimalist approach.  We strive to create similar impact through clean design for our clients who reflect this sensibility in their design goals.  We come across artists and their works that often move us in ways that inform projects in both planning and execution stages.  We are always on the look out for excellence in design arts and spend countless hours seeking the most profound statements of inspired work.
